For our second day in Rome we decided to go to St. Peter's Basilica. We were going to go to the Vatican Museum but they are closed on Sunday and somehow I missed that. But there are many things to do and see so it all worked out. We started our day at St. Peters and we decided to climb up the Cupola first thing before we got too tired or it got too hot. Sunday was a busy day there with mass and so we stood in line for a while. Things moved fairly quickly and so we found the next line for the dome and it was not too bad. We got in right away and started to climb. We took turns with Vinny, our 25 lb weight.
As we climbed up, you come to an area inside where we took these first pictures from. There was a mass going on at that time and we enjoyed watching part of it. We then continuted out onto the roof and up to the very top. It is a beautiful view and we felt a great accomplishment to have done it with Vinny. I think its 467 steps to the top. But we climbed a lot of stairs in Italy and I can't remember anymore.

The view from the top includes, St Peter's square, a few of the vatican museum and some of the grounds in Vatican City. It is a massive place and we spent 1/2 the day there. We continued our journey for the day and walked from there towards Plazza Nuova.
