Our second day in Florence!! We started out the morning with a walk along the river and our destination was the Pitti Palace and the Boboli Gardens. The Palace has a collection of furnishings and paintings from the Renaissance era. The Gardens are part of the Palace area and they were open to the public even back in the 14th and 15th centuries. There have been additions to the gardens over time too.

This picture is taken at the very top of the gardens! The hills of Florence are beautiful and you can see why the area was settled and why people love the area. The first picture below is of the arena, this is just outside the palace. The other picture is of Cypress Lane and it is lined with many statues all out of marble.

The next pictures are of The Fountain of Mostaccini and a face sculpture that is quite large, as you can see from the people sitting next to it.

These pictures are of the area around Cypress Lane, they started planting them in 1612 and trained them to grow over into this labyrinths and this one is called the Cerchaita Grande. It was nice to be outside and enjoy these gardens.

The last area in the gardens is the Island Pond, here resides many fine statues including Perseus on horseback by Giovan Battista Pieratti.

We made a visit to Santa Croce, it is the next largest church in Florence and the following picture is of Michaelangelo's tomb. The other pictures are from Michaelangelo's square up on top of the hills and the pictures overlook the city. It was a great trip and the weather was perfect. (We watched the forecast and picked the best days.)

The last picture on this post is of a famous actor, we just happened upon. I will give you a hint..he played on ER.

It is Anthony Edwards alias Dr. Mark Green. We were not brave enough to interrupt his vacation but we did take a few pictures.
