Welcome to the area where Kari lives, the air force base is in Aviano and she lives not too far from there in FontannaFredda. They grow a lot of grapes, and other fruit in the area. She bought cherries from one of the farmers earlier in the year and we were able to enjoy fresh apples and grapes. There are many wineries in the area, I am told that the wine is very good and you can buy it at a resonable price. I was there right before and during the harvest. I took some pictures so that you can see how nice they are.


















The next picture is the corner of the fence to the base, I tried not to take too many pictures of the base, they really don't like that I guess. You can see the setting, out in the country right up against the mountains.















This picture is taken from up on the hillside, there is a Sanctuary there, some of the Americans call it the chrome dome but it is a very beautiful church with a lot of history, it dates back to the 13th century. At least the story does. This is a view out over the valley.




















The next few pictures are of the church, the Madonna inside is quite beautiful, they had some watercolor pictures of the church and so for a donation we were able to take them home to remember Aviano.














A short drive from there you are back in the mountains and it is very pretty, I bet you thought I was in Montana or something... This is part of the Italian Dolomites. The water is Lake Barcis and it is a glacier fed lake, kind of looks like Lake Louise in Canada. Its the same color anyway.
















What posting would be complete without Vinson in it. He is learning to ride a little bike and then in the last picture, he had pulled some things out of the drawer and Mom was making him put it back...
